Module 00

Welcome + Introduction + The Prep!

Welcome to The Floral Workshop! This mini-course is all about how to paint an acrylic floral arrangement. This course is a great starting point for learning the basics of painting in acrylic and how to sketch from a photograph!

Follow along with this first video to hear a little bit about my artistic + business journey and see all the supplies you will need for the painting. After watching the video you will need to purchase or round up supplies! There is an attached Supply List in this module with a list of recommended items, but feel free to use your discretion when purchasing.

module 01

Sketching Out The Floral Arrangement!

Module 01 will be the initial sketch of the floral arrangement. We will go over your painting setup and we will get our palettes and our paint ready. I will walk you through how much you will need, what colors you will need the most of, and how to assemble your paint palette.

Follow along as I show you how to draw your table, vase, flowers and all of the very beginning details! Keep things organic and don't worry too much if it looks weird at first... this is just the very first step!

module 02

Let’s Paint!

Let's start painting! In this video, we will begin adding the first layers of our flowers on the canvas. At this point, they will not look like flowers at all, but more like blobs of color-- and that's okay! We will slowly start to develop them with layers and layers, but we do need to give each flower some dry time in between.

Actual painting time will take you about 2.5 hours from start to finish (and then add in about 1.5 hours for dry time), so feel free to take your time through each module, allowing the painting to dry in between.

module 03

Painting Continued!

In this video, we will continue adding layers to our flowers and really start to develop them! We will start adding highlights and shadows, to make our flowers look more 3D. This module is the meat of the painting, where we will get into how to layer the acrylic paint and make our flowers come to life!

module 04

The Final Touches!

In this module we jump back in-- and continue adding more layers and shadows. We will start with adding some deeper tones to really make the flowers stand out.

Layering is a huge part of abstracted floral paintings, and every layer adds extra interest and helps create a beautiful composition. We will finish up painting the flowers in this part of the course.

module 05

Finishing The Painting!

In this video we will begin by signing our piece and then we will add a few more details.

Up next in the video is the oil pastels or chalk pastels (or both!)! We will use the pastels to color and draw on the surface, which will create a totally new brushstroke and mark-- creating variety and interest within your painting. You can also really define the flowers with the pastels-- creating more depth within them.

Last, but not least, follow along to see how to spray and seal your canvas, and then also how to add wire for hanging! This will ensure that it is completely ready to hang in your home.
